Camas Boys JV basketball hosted league rival Union High School Friday afternoon, in their final matchup of the season. Strong, physical defense set the tone early for both teams.

The Papermakers and Titans battled throughout the 1st quarter, rebounding and stingy defense kept offensive production low, as the quarter came to a close, the Titans held a slight advantage, 17-16.

Physical play continued throughout the 2nd quarter, with the Papermakers taking advantage of scoring opportunities, while keeping up their defensive pressure, to take the lead going into half, 28-25.

The 3rd quarter saw the Titans leverage their size advantage, capitalizing on second chance scoring opportunities. The Papermakers struggled to convert offensively in the quarter, also getting into the penalty early with (5) team fouls. The Titans converted with excellent free throw shooting (83% for the game), to take back and extend the lead, 47-39.

The Papermakers increased their defensive pressure to start the final quarter, resulting in Union turnovers leading to fast break points. Battling back to get within 3, the Papermakers looked poised to come away with a late game comeback victory. In the end, Union held strong, converting on late game free throws to come away with a 62-55 win.

Leading the way for the Papermakers:  Sophomore’s Tanner Werry (18 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal); Gavin Clarke (15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal); Max Rehrer (10 points (Perfect 7-7 FT's), 3 steals, 2 assists, 1 rebound); Brayden Yelverton (4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and freshman Cason Thompson adding (6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assists).
