RECAP: Boys JV vs Union

January 30, 2025

Camas Boys JV 46, Union Boys JV 60

Camas Boys JV basketball travelled the short distance across town, to league rival Union High School Thursday afternoon. With an early tipoff, both teams looked to set a physical tone from the start.

The Papermakers and Titans battled through the 1st quarter, rebounding and stingy defense held the offensive production in check, as the quarter came to a close, the Titans held a slight advantage, 17-13.

Physical play continued throughout the 2nd quarter, with the Titans extending their lead with second chance opportunities, combined with strong interior play. Costly turnovers by the Papermakers down the stretch, saw the Titans increase their lead going into half time, 32-23.

Coming out with increased defensive intensity to start the 3rd quarter, Camas looked poised to chip away at the Titans' lead. Steals leading to perimeter conversions, aggressive drives to the basket, allowed the Papermakers to fight back, midway through the 3rd. Union held strong, ending the quarter with key offensive possessions, as they extended their lead to 43-31.

Leading the way for the Papermakers:  Sophomore’s Tanner Werry (16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals); Gavin Clarke (7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 3 assists) and freshman Cason Thompson adding (5 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal).

The Papermakers fell short 60-46, but look to rebound on a quick turnaround, with a season final rematch, Friday at Home vs Union.
